You hand all the vegetables to the Manager, including the tacos – though you have second thoughts about that; they looked delicious, whatever their origin, and you are hungry – and feel more than hear a deep rumble in the earth.

“That would be the lunch rush,” the Manager says. You see a name tag on her dress. It reads “Manager MANAGER, Café Manager.” It seems that the saying nomen est omen does apply after all.

You re-enter the café just as a giant horde of dwarves comes in, probably from the mines. Some booths are already full of all variety of creatures, crystal sprites and faeries and selkies – and is that a lava mermaid on the top level? – and you can see that with the dwarves, the place will be packed.

Just as you’re about to start frantically chopping vegetables, one of the other servers says, “Oh, he’s early today!”

You look at who could have inspired this reaction and see that a dragon has poked its whiskered face in through the window. You don’t remember the Pear Wiggler having a window there when you came, but perhaps they remodeled while you were in the fields.

The dragon seems to be incredibly distracted by the pear juice fountain. He squirms inside the café sinuously.

“New people!” the Manager calls. “Give the old geezer the dirt you dug up. And hurry up, we have an earnings goal to meet!”

You look at the earnings goal and think you’ll be here all week before you can meet it, but keep the thought to yourself. Instead, you bring the dirt to the dragon, only to discover that… it’s coming to life?

“Ahh, golems; I was wondering if this would happen,” the dragon says. He sounds old and wise. He joins you in watching the golems spring to work, serving people at a pace that might make the Manager’s earnings goal at least somewhat realistic. “But there’s no need for you to mind old Fuzang. Go entertain the customers and get some tips.”

Tips? Perhaps they will be counted towards the earnings target. You thank Fuzang for his advice and spread out to entertain waiting customers with art and stories.

Pear Boss 1 progress tracker

Pear Collection | Prompt Collection (AO3) | Prompt Collection (Automagic App)

The boss starts with 350,000 hit points. Your Dirt count of 69500 grams, plus overkill equivalent to 12000 grams, reduces that to 268,500 hit points. For the rest, members of Team Pear post works to their team’s collection.

During boss phases, works score points. All works scoring more than 10,000 points will count as 10,000 points.

Works in multiple mediums may claim a maximum of 10,000 points per medium, with each medium capped at 10,000 points (e.g., 2000 points of fic + 14,000 points of art = 2000 + 10,000 = 12,000 points).

In addition to points, there are boss-wide goals for AO3 labels, such as “F/F works” and “M-E rating.” You must collectively achieve these goals to complete the boss. Each work counts once towards a boss goal.

Fic and podfic are worth 1 point per word, using the AO3 wordcount.

Images are worth 500 to 2500 points. Images are scored as follows:

Art has a base value of 500 points for a single character, vehicle, or structure depicted in monochrome lineart with a blank or solid color background.

Additional points may be layered on for complexity:

  • 500 points for the second character, vehicle, or structure depicted in monochrome lineart
  • 250 points for each additional character, vehicle, or structure after the first two
  • 250 points for each character, vehicle, or structure depicted in more than one color
  • 250 flat points for shading
  • 250 flat points for a detailed background

Full-color art styles that do not use lineart (e.g., painting, pixel art) will be scored equal to the point value of a character with lineart and color, e.g., 750 points for each of the first two characters in full color and 500 points for each character in full color after the first two.

No individual image or panel may score more than 2500 points; any score greater than that will be capped at 2500 points. Unique, separately created images may be combined in a comic or compilation, for which each image will be individually scored (maxing out at 2500 points each) and the scores added.

For art, list the points earned in the author's note to make sure the mods score your artwork correctly.

During a boss, each team member is capped at 50,000 points, with no cap on the number of works.

Team members (and only members of that team) should post works to their respective team collection.

Good luck!
