I absolutely LOVE this entire series. I adore the vivid sense of setting, I'm fascinated by the mysteries and I LOVE the characters in it. It's just a really amazingly immersive series, and I can't help but get lost in it every single time I pick it up.

Benjamin January/Abishag Shaw

This was probably my earliest pairing in the series, and I still ship them firmly now. I like how they should be on opposite sides, should really mistrust each other, and yet instead have this slightly odd and really sweet relationship with each other. I love how they trust each other (Shaw somewhat more than Ben, admittedly), I love how they frequently seem to amuse each other and I really love how they just seem to get each other in a really compelling way.

My stance on infidelity here is that while I'd rather it not be a thing, I can understand how it could be difficult to avoid and don't want you to tie yourself up in knots over it! I'd prefer it to be stated/heavily implied polyamory (in that Rose is fine with it, even if it takes a while) or even just something where Rose doesn't appear/never got together with Ben, but as long as it isn't 1000 odd words of Ben angsting over/reveling in cheating on his wife I should be beyond fine!

I loved their dynamic in the books, and I really want to see more of it. Especially in a romantic sense. I feel that there’s a hell of a lot of potential for a really interesting romantic relationship there, and I’d absolutely love to see somebody explore that!

Cadfael Chronicles - Ellis Peters

I really enjoy the Cadfael Chronicles. They're just an incredible amount of fun. They're the perfect mixture of complex mystery paired with just a really reassuring tone/portrayal of the world, and they're the perfect comfort read for a rainy day. I really love the historical setting, I really love the crimes that they have to solve and I especially love the characters and the interactions between them.

Brother Cadfael/Hugh Beringar

I just love them both so much! I love how Cadfael is so smart, but is also always so kind and knows a lot more about the way of the world than pretty much everybody around him. I love how Hugh is incredibly cunning and a touch ruthless, but is also really loyal to those he cares about and willing to bend the rules just a little if it means protecting people. I find their friendship really interesting, the way they balance each other and seem to genuinely adore each other despite all the differences between them, and I'd love to perhaps see an expansion of that.

OH MY GOD I LOVE THESE STORIES SO MUCH. They're just so charming! Really comforting and cozy, but also exceptionally well written and with some really interesting crimes. I find them absolutely wonderful, and absurdly enjoyable, and I'd love to see more fanfic for them!

Father Brown/Flambeau

I ship these two SO MUCH, and have done since about the first short story. Their dynamic is just absolute catnip to me. They start off as enemies, Flambeau even threatens Father Brown with absolute sincerity, but in the end they end up absolutely (and slightly absurdly) committed BFFs who look after each other all the time. I love how Father Brown sees some good in Flambeau, I love how Flambeau is all in regarding his loyalty to Father Brown and I really just love how sweet they are together.

I ended up reading all the books within a month the first time I read this series. This was unprecedented for me, as while I usually read a lot I tend to be a bit of a butterfly when it comes to reading through a series. I just found these books so incredibly gripping. The cases are really interesting, the setting (with its slightest edge of paranormal stuff) is excellent and I just really love all the characters.

Frey/McGray

Of course I ship the hell out of these two. They just have a dynamic that's absolute catnip to me. They're a historical detective duo, they're forced into close proximity to each other while solving cases, they have a certain amount of loyalty to each other... But at the same time they have an interesting amount of hostility between them, a large amount of mistrust and a lot of things to work through. They obviously care about each other a little while still finding each other incredibly difficult, and I'd LOVE to see more of that.

I absolutely love this series. It’s just so good! I love the complexity of the plots, I love all the historical flavour and I love the work they put into developing the characters. They’re really engrossing watches, and I’ve found myself absolutely obsessed with them for a while now. I would absolutely adore more fic for this fandom!

John Bacchus/George Gently

I ADORE the relationship between these two. It’s basically absolute catnip to me, and has been since pretty much the first season. One is a grumpy older cop with a heart of gold and a hell of a lot of stubbornness, one is a dickhead younger cop who has a lot of unexamined prejudices but always means well. Their relationship is one of tension and struggle, but they’re also SO loyal to each other and care SO much about each other and are just perfect together on every single level. I would love to receive some fic for them!

I’m fine waiving my infidelity DNW for this fandom, if you want to set your fic around series 1-2. The fact of the matter is that John canonically cheats on his wife, so I’m fine with him doing it in a fic too. As long as it isn't 1000 odd words of John angsting over/reveling in cheating on his wife I should be beyond fine!

My stance on break ups is much the same. I would prefer John’s split with Lisa to be mentioned only in passing, but as long as it isn’t 1000 words purely focusing on it I should be fine!

Ah, yet another slightly obscure crime series that I really enjoy! The Restoration series is, as the title implies, set in the Restoration and is a lot of fun. I like the little period details, I like the intricacies of the mysteries and I really like how the two come together in a lot of interestingly tense ways. The ways that Puritans and Cavaliers (and even Puritan and Cavalier leaning people!) interact in this series is fascinating to me, and a big part of the reason as to why I keep coming back.

Christopher/Jonathan

I ADORE Christopher and Jonathan and the relationship between them. They start off a little tense with each other, one being a Cavalier leaning dude and the other being fairly Puritan, but quickly grow into a really strong and lasting partnership. I think the fifth book calls them "unlikely soulmates" (and, yeah, if you have matched on another thing and are just idly reading through the rest of this letter TOTALLY A REASON TO READ THESE BOOKS), and that's basically the only way I can see them now. I love how supportive they are of each other, how well they compliment each other and how much they just GET each other despite all their differences.

My stance on infidelity here is, again, that while I'd rather it not be a thing, I can understand how it could be difficult to avoid and don't want you to tie yourself up in knots over it! I'd prefer it to be stated/heavily implied polyamory (in that Sarah is fine with it, and maaaaaybe banging Susan in the background), but as long as it isn't 1000 odd words of Jonathan angsting over/revelling in cheating on his wife I should be beyond fine!

OH GOD THIS SERIES. It is so good, and it breaks my heart afresh with every new instalment. Set in 1910s-1920s India it's a massively immersive and interesting series of books. I love the sense of atmosphere, I love the interesting mystery plots and I absolutely love the characters. This is just really gripping from start to finish, really well done and compelling in many ways, and I'd absolutely love to see more of it.

Sam/Surendranath

I really ship these two, and have done since about book 2. I love how Sam is so cynical and jaded, but has a really sharp sense of justice that's just really encouraged by Suren. I also love how Suren is really innocent and a bit naive in a lot of ways, but is also really smart and slightly devious and openly encouraged in both of these things by Sam.

I just really love them! They shouldn't be close, they shouldn't really like each other at all, but they just have this really firm bond that's stood up against so many things. I love the loyalty between them, I love the fact that they're able to laugh with each other and I love that they have each other's backs even when the situation is fraught. I also, trying to avoid spoilers, love all the complexity that enters their relationship in book 4 and the way they both react to that. I'd love to see more of them!

This is a (so far) three book mystery series set in the reign of Henry II, and I just really love every single part of it. The writing is excellent, the mysteries are really interesting (especially the one in book 2) and I just absolutely ADORE the characters. It's a really interesting, really fun, really diverse series that I absolutely love and I would be so excited to get fic for it.

Stanton/Barling

A big part of why I love this series so much is these two. I love these two SO MUCH. They're absolutely adorable. Barling is a stuffy clerk who is a bit of a snob all things considered, but has a heart of gold underneath and a really strong commitment to justice (and is also canonically gay, which is nice for detective fiction). Stanton is a bit irresponsible and tends to be reckless, but is super loyal to those he loves and super understanding in so many ways.

Together they're absolutely wonderful and I adore them. I love how they banter with each other, I love the quickly growing trust between them and I especially love how they're so very loyal to each other. They truly care about each other, truly regard each other as important and aren't shy about showing it, and I'd absolutely love to see more of their dynamic.

God, I absolutely love the dynamic between these two. Malcolm is such a force of nature, such a furious and intense man who can quite cheerfully fuck up any day. Ollie, on the other hand, is kind of pathetic on the surface but beyond capable of being devious and unpleasant himself. Together I really love their dynamic, all the layers of humiliation and mentoring and resentment and willingness to work together that culminate in that glorious betrayal at the end. It’s all so complex and lovely, and I’d love to see more of it.
